The kids had lots of fun. I liked that I had all materials already on hand: cardstock, white glue, salt, food coloring, and straws
With a dropper you squirt drops of water with food coloring (I used about 5-6 drops for 1/4 c. water) over the design. It's fun to watch the salt conduct the color along the glue tubes, especially when the colors met at an intersection. In fact, we had a couple of impromptu little science lessons as we watched.
Basically, you "draw" a design all over the cardstock with the glue and then shake salt over the whole thing until the glue is covered. On some designs we shook the salt off at that point (leaving the paper clear except for the salt that clung to the wet glue), and on other designs we just left the salt on the paper as we shook it. Both looked neat.

The kids absolutely loved these and we made another batch to and omitted the salt for sugar and cinnamon for a desert pretzel.
These are now asked for frequently!!!!
Homemade Sidewalk Paint
cornstarch
water
food coloring
small containers
paint brushes
In your small containers, add equal parts cornstarch and water. I used a little less than 1/4 cup of each for our paint. Mix the cornstarch and water well (it'll be gloppy at the bottom). Add several drops of food coloring to each container to make the colors your children want and mix well.

And we made Homemade Play Doh
1 cup flour
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of salt
2 tablespoons Cream of Tarter
1 tablespoon of Oil
Cook this ingredients until it forms a ball and pulls away from the pan.Wait for the play-doh to cool a bit then and the color.
The Kids and I had a blast being together going places,doing crafts and baking homemade goodies.
